Meet: District 9C
Date: 2011-05-11HAVRE — The Chinook boys and the North Star girls romped to victory in the District 9C track and field meet here Wednesday.
Chinook piled up 212 points in the boys' competition, followed by North Star (118) and Turner (79).
North Star outscored Chinook 245-150 to win the girls' team championship. Big Sandy was third with 83 points.
Tyler Molyneaux led Chinook with wins in the 110-meter hurdles, shot put and discus. He also ran legs on the first-place 400 and 1,600 relay teams.
The Sugarbeeters' Dylan Surber took top honors in the 400 and 800, competed in both relays and placed second in the 100. Teammate Kaylan Johnson won both the 1,600 and 3,200.
Connor Kline of North Star won both hurdles races, and Travis Hofer of Turner was first in both the long jump and high jump.
Lisa Carlon and Jordan Spicher were the top scorers for the North Star girls. Carlon earned firsts in the long jump and high jump, ran a leg on the victorious 400 relay team, placed second in the triple jump, and took third in the pole vault. Spicher won the pole vault, ran on the 400 relay team, and earned seconds in the the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 400 dash.
The Knights' Shelby Lipp won both the shot put and javelin and placed second in the discus.
Kayla Hanson of Chinook won both hurdles races and the triple jump.
The top five finishers in each individual event and the top five relay teams qualified for next Thursday's Northern C divisional meet in Great Falls.
The District 3C meet, originally scheduled for Wednesday in Glasgow, was rescheduled for today because of inclrement weather.
Also on tap today are the District 4C meet in Glendive and the District 7C meet in Lewistown. (Great Falls Tribune, May 12, 2011)
