Meet: Glacier-Columbia Falls Dual
Date: 2011-05-12KALISPELL - For some, it was the last track meet of the year. For others, it was the last chance to be laid-back.
With only 15 days until the start of state meets, athletes from Glacier and Columbia Falls capitalized on favorable, sunny weather at the annual non-scoring dual meet at Glacier High on Thursday.

The Wolfpack teams whittled down to divisional numbers in the final meet before next week's two-day Western AA showcase at Legends Stadium.
For Columbia Falls, it was a last chance at low-key competition before this weekend's massive ABC Invite in Polson and then there again for the divisional starting next Friday.
"These duals are nice because they're a laid-back tempo but you get some great performances," Columbia Falls coach Jamie Heinz said. "We're using this as a kind of precursor to divisionals and we have our kids focusing on some certain events. We definitely got that today. I'm very happy with where we're at."
Columbia Falls' Anthony Correa won a tight 400, edging out Glacier's Jacob Leininger and teammate Derrick Williams by less than a second. Correa, who has the fastest time in Class A, clocked 51.22. His best time this season is 50.95.
Leininger took first in his best event, the 110 hurdles, and came away with the second best time for all classes statewide this season, 14.82.
Glacier's Lexy Boschee continued the road back to full health and appears almost there. The standout junior won the triple jump, 35-10, and was first in the 300 hurdles, 46.64. Both marks are in the top five statewide, all-classes.
Glacier's Anna Deleray won both the 1,600 and 200. Her winning 1,600 time of 5:24.67 was the seventh best so far this season. Teammate Heather Fraley won the 800 in 2:20.09, which is the fourth best thus far.
"I think everybody came to the meet pretty relaxed," Glacier girls coach Jerry Boschee said. "We were looking forward to some nice weather. But I like where we are going into divisionals. There is a group of kids that have really come along and positioned themselves well going into divisionals. I like their chances."
Shane Freese of Glacier had his best high jump this season with a winning mark of 6-7, which tied him for second best statewide so far. Freese also won the long jump. Teammate Tanner Morrison had his best throw in the discus this season, landing 172-3 for the win. That is third best in the state.
Other boys winners from Glacier were: Andrew Nelson in the 100; Aaron Mitchell in the 200; Ian Hollander in the 800; Troy Fraley in the 1,600; Josiah Bumgarner in the pole vault; Trey Griffith in the triple jump; Marshall Boyland in the shot put; and Todd Ogden in the javelin.
For Columbia Falls, Austin Dumay won the 3,200 and Kodiak Gimbel won the 300 hurdles.
Columbia Falls won the long relay and Glacier won short.
Glacier's Nicole Heavirland won both the 100 hurdles and long jump. Other winners for Glacier were: Leah Cook in the high jump; Brittanie Dull in the shot put; Mallare Venturini in the discus; and Ellen Stricker in the javelin.
