Meet: Archie Roe
Date: 2011-05-08KALISPELL - The Kalispell Glacier boys and Whitefish girls won team titles at the 37th annual Archie Roe track and field meet on Saturday at Legends Stadium.
The Glacier squad racked up 134 points to clobber rival Flathead (76.5) and Columbia Falls (74) in the boys' competition. In the girls' events, Whitefish rode the efforts of freshman Marlow Schulz to a narrow 99-92 victory over Flathead.
Schulz, who swept the 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs, was named the top female athlete of the meet. Schulz's time in the 400 (58.70 seconds) is one of the fastest in the state this spring. Teammate Amanda Foley was runner-up in both the 100 and 200 and Jessica Sagen won the 1,600.
Most of Flathead's points came from wins in the jumps by Tess Brenneman and Kwyn Johnson and a blazing 400 relay (50.43) win. Glacier's Lexy Boschee won the 100 hurdles and high jump and the Wolfpack also posted a good time (4:09.02) en route to the 1,600 relay win.
Loyola Sacred Heart had a pair of individual wins from Ashley Medeiros (shot) and Kiernan Haggarty (javelin).
On the boys' side, Glacier's Jacob Leininger swept the hurdle events in convincing fashion, though neither time broke his personal best this spring. Also, the Wolfpack won the 400 relay in 44.38 and Todd Ogden and Tanner Morrison won in the throws.
Flathead's Zach Perrin swept the two distance runs and Columbia Falls' Derrick Williams ran the second-fastest 800 time of the season (1:58.80).
Browning's Charles Old Chief was named the top male of the meet for winning the 100, 200 and 400.
