Meet: Helena Coaches Meet

Date: 2011-04-01
HELENA - The weather was almost perfect for a track meet, as Capital High opened the season with the Coaches Meet at Vigilante Stadium.

And despite the fact that only one team showed up to test the defending conference champion Bruin thinclads — Class A Choteau — in the unscored dual, both local coaches were happy with the results.

“It was beautiful, and the kids had fun,” said CHS mentor Lon Carter, who has been working with the brown-and-gold in one form or another since the school opened, 37 years ago.

“I tell you what, Choteau has some quality kids.”

Longtime Bruin girls’ coach Shirley Chesterfield-Stanton agreed, stating, “I’m very pleased with our girls, a lot of the kids had personal bests.

“This was a great start for us,” said Chesterfield-Stanton, who is in her 33rd season as the head track coach. (Independent Record, April 2, 2011)
